FAQs

Can you tell me what grade I will get on a paper?

No. Awarding grades is something only your instructor can do, and grades have no meaning in the writing center. We can tell you if a subsequent draft of a paper is improved over an earlier one, and we’ll also tell you why.

Can I drop off a paper for proof-reading and pick it up later?

No. The goal of the Writing Center is to help students become better writers. We can’t do that if the student isn’t here.

Is there a limit to how many appointments I can make?

Students are limited to 2 appointments per week, but walk-ins are accepted on a first-come first-serve basis.

How do I cancel an appointment?

You can cancel an appointment by coming by the Writing Center or the front desk of the Learning Center or by calling (909) 389-3312.

What should I bring with me?

Bring whatever materials you want help on. If you are working on a class assignment, bringing the assignment prompt is helpful.

How much does it cost?

The Writing Center is completely free to all CHC students.

Do I have to make an appointment?

You do not have to make an appointment; although we strongly suggest you do. Walk-ins (students without an appointment) are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

How do I make an appointment?

The Writing Center appointment book is located at the front desk of the Learning Center on the third floor of the library (exit the elevator and head right).

What is the Writing Center?

A place where writers sit together and talk about writing. Most students take advantage of our tutors.
